I think the reason you show such sympathy for the MAGAs is precisely because you grew up in that liberal community in NYC. You did not grow up among them. Look at the population of most of our cities - so many of us are refugees from the hills and hollers. We did grow up among them, and they were so toxic that we fled as soon as the law allowed- into the military, colleges, merchant marine - ANYTHING to escape. Don't lump us with any "elites" or blame us for their jumping down rabbit holes. Not every leftist comes from elite neighborhoods like yours. My impression is that most of us don't. We don't need investigative reporting and guilt-ridden self examination as to understand why they hate us. We lived with their hatered, and endured it as kids. Yes, we are taking away their culture. If you had ever been forced to share that culture, you would not show such sympathy to it.
